In 1992 I moved to Campbell River from my hometown, Victoria, to take what I thought was a two to three year position at the Campbell River Hospital. Twenty three years later I still cannot imagine making my home anywhere else. The natural beauty of our city, the strength of our community and the people I have been fortunate to meet, are the reasons that “two to three” years turned into “twenty-three”.

I enjoy golf, curling, fishing and travel with my wife Karen and as we have a mutual love of sports, downtime usually means watching hockey, football or some other sport together. Karen feels fortunate to have worked at Broadstreet Properties and Seymour Pacific Developments in various managerial and senior capacities over the last seven years, is passionate about her career and understands business. She has two sons, ages 18 and 19 that I have had the privilege of “growing up” with over the last nine years. Oh, and we also have two adorable cats.

Community Involvement

The Campbell River Rotary Club has truly made a difference, locally and abroad. Just after moving here, I had an opportunity to join this remarkable group, and I am proud to still be a member today. My involvement in Rotary became the foundation for twenty three years of community service in various capacities and with numerous organizations. It is a gift to be involved, to feel the reward of helping others and to meet and work alongside remarkable Campbell Riverites. What a generous community we live in!

From that foundation, my interest in economic development took me to the city’s Advisory Planning Commission where I served for two terms from 1998-2002. During that time I also served on the  Strategic Planning Working Group on Removing Barriers to Development in Campbell River.

We are all involved in our community, whether it’s organizing or attending a fundraising event, picking up a piece of litter, supporting our children’s activities, donating to the Food Bank or serving on the Board of a non-profit group. These experiences are rewarding and they create connectivity to our community, our environment, and to each other.

Municipal Governance requires oversight, vision and the ability to reach consensus as a group. The role of Mayor and Council is to represent our citizens, work in the best interests of our City, provide strategic direction on City initiatives and services, and ensure the accountability and transparency of City operations. While carrying out this role, it is incumbent on Mayor and Council to maintain the financial integrity of the City with thoughtful investment in infrastructure, conservative fiscal policy and fair taxation which does not transfer debt to our children and grandchildren.

Additionally, the role of Mayor is to make recommendations to staff and Council, provide leadership in a positive and professional manner, and promote the City locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.

I am ready to fulfill this role for the Citizens of Campbell River.

On November 15th, 2014, vote for Andy Adams, a positive, professional and credible Mayor.
